This week, we’re sharing a travel hack to help you fully immerse yourself in your journeys—so you can truly embrace the essence of "being" no matter where you are in the world.

At Root Adventures, we believe in traveling with mind, body, and soul. Below, you'll find a heartfelt way to deepen your experience and connect more fully with your adventures.

travel hack: expand your adventure through the stories of others

Reading stories set in a destination you dream of visiting, intend to visit, or just visited offers insight beyond your personal experience and can help deepen your connection to the place, culture, and land. Through local characters, it’s easier to grasp traditions, social dynamics, and unspoken nuances. Stories make history and culture more relatable, deepening your connection when you visit.

a few of our favorites…

Our favorite online bookshops:

2nd Hand Bookseller:

Thriftbooks - Independent used book seller. In addition to giving books a new life, they offer profit-sharing with libraries and “Friends of Library” groups across the country.

“We believe in books and the power of the written word to impact lives and societies across the globe, and we cherish our role in saving books to live another day to educate, entertain, inspire, and transform lives.” - Thriftbooks

Sustainability Focused Bookseller:

World of Books - A Carbon Neutral B-Corp whose story began in 2002, when a group of book-loving entrepreneurs stumbled upon a bag of books in a charity shop bin, destined for landfill. They rescued them on the spot, determined to give them a second life and World of Books was born.

Support Small Bookseller:

Bookshop.org works to connect readers with independent booksellers all over the world. Every purchase on the site financially supports independent bookstores. The platform gives independent bookstores tools to compete online and financial support to help them maintain their presence in local communities. You can choose your bookstore (I love Elizabeth's Bookshop!) or your purchase will go to the general bookstore pool to help all stores.
