Spring is just around the corner, bringing with it unpredictable weather.
One day may be bright and warm, while the next brings rain—or even snow.
Much like the shifting seasons, life’s transitions can be challenging and uncertain.
Whether you're preparing to send a child to college, navigating the end of a relationship, mourning a loss, or simply shifting from work mode to home life, transitions have a way of shaking our balance.
This month, we’ll explore meaningful ways to navigate and embrace these changes.
observe nature and find gratitude
Take a few moments throughout the day to gaze out the window
What is nature doing? Is today sunny and warm? Cold and snowy? Something in between?
Take a moment to appreciate whatever Nature has put on display by finding a moment of gratitude. What is there to grateful for on the cold snowy day in the middle of March? How can we find gratitude for another rainy day?
The way to activate gratitude is by feeling it in your body. After you name what you’re grateful for, pause to let it sink into your body. Then listen. Where in your body is the feeling showing up?
accept what is
One of the hardest parts of transitions is wishing we were somewhere else. Sitting in the cold and longing for sunshine only creates discomfort. Wishing for happiness when you're overwhelmed with anxiety often amplifies the unease.
Instead, try this simple practice:
Throughout your day, check in with yourself. Ask, How am I feeling in this moment? Where do I feel it in my body? For example, I notice a heaviness in my chest.
Take a pause and breathe into the sensation. This gentle acknowledgment signals to your body that you are in a state of acceptance, which helps regulate the fight-or-flight response.
Acceptance doesn’t mean you want more of the feeling—it simply means recognizing where you are, without resistance.
This practice is especially helpful on challenging days.
slow down daily transitions
The best way to honor transitions is to move through them without rushing. Try the practice below to bring more ease into your day.
Instead of rushing from thing to thing, pause as you transition from one activity to the next throughout day.
Take 10 deep and slow breaths, counting the breaths as you go. “Breathing in one, breathing out one. Breathing in two, breathing out two.”
It may seem like this will take up more time, but you might find it actually creates more spaciousness in your day.
